Designer Highlight: Joshua Farr

Where are you from/ Where have you lived/ Where do you spend most of your time?

I'm actually a rare native to northern California. Grew up in Vallejo, then moved out to Oakland, and have called it home ever since.

What are some of your favorite places and things to do in the Bay Area or where you are located?

This is gonna sound cliche, but honestly, I really enjoy driving around and searching for coffee shops. It's my excuse to explore and find new things to experience in the bay. My wife & I are both photographers, so we're also looking for new things to capture!

What do you do at Viscera?

As the Digital Mechanic, I keep things moving behind the scenes - like the engineer on a ship, but with html & photoshop! I've spent a lot of my personal and professional career learning about marketing and creative technologies, and now I apply that to various projects with Viscera. Somedays, that's teaching a client over zoom how to use their newly built website, other days that's picking up a gimbal and a camera and shooting commercials. I really love the role because every day I get to use a different part of my brain, and also make an impact for our clients. #dreamjob

Digital or Analog?

I might have to plead the fifth on this question - I can't decide! I spend a lot of time on a device of some type, but have always valued being able to work with things that are tangible, or more organic. Put differently, digital gets the job done, but analog makes the job memorable. There's a time and place for it all! Fifth!

What are your creative outlets? What sort of creative things do you enjoy doing?

My current motto is "create anything with everything. Create everything with anything". I enjoy making music, caputing moments via photography or videos, drawing on paper or my tablet, anything that allows me to convey my thoughts in a way that words can lack.

Where do you find creative inspiration these days?

The Bench (my community of artist friends), nature, meditating.

How do you spend your free time?

Hanging with my wife, emily, & our dog, Raymond. & sharing abridged versions of those times on @brotherfarr.
